Area

Our walks take place on the Albrighton Country Estate, we fly the birds in a 200-acre wood and the surrounding fields.  The walk lasts approximately 1 hour and is about a mile long, during which the Hawks are called repeatedly to your fist, whilst they naturally follow on through the trees. The walk uses footpaths and bridleways designated around the estate; however the remote location often results in a very private walk.  Unfortunately disabled access is not possible as the field margins are uneven and not suitable for wheel chair access. The paths are mown once or twice a year and during the winter we ask that you follow our requirements on footwear, as the path can get a little slippery with mud. We do point out during the walk any uneven points but please understand that you are walking in the countryside and we can’t control all parts of the environment!

What a Hawk Walk Entails

After introductions we then take a short drive to the flying area. The Hawks are prepared whilst you are shown how to call and hold them correctly. The Hawks are then released and the walk begins. The walk lasts approximately 1 hour, during which the Hawks are called repeatedly to your fist, whilst they naturally follow on through the trees and surrounding countryside. The walks are unhurried and at your own pace. The whole walk takes place across field margins and bridal ways, taking in the stunning Shropshire views.  A unique part of the experience is the individuality of the walks, we do not ask you to join part of a larger group of strangers. The walk is totally your own and whomever you choose to share it with, either just the falconer or members of your family as spectators or participants. This offers you plenty of time to ask any questions, and with the birds flying and landing so close around you there are numerous photographic opportunities.

Hawks on Walks will provide you with a falconry glove, which is always worn on the left hand. All we ask of you, is to bring suitable walking shoes or Wellington boots, warm clothing, your camera and your voucher.  Our meeting place is the Battlefield 1403 Farm Shop, if you want to add a meal or refreshments to your Hawks on Walks recommends Sparrows café.
